My router/modem is located on one side of the house as it's connected to my xbox/tv. Now for the bulbs I hope its something simple, but for the strip I assume its because its farthest away from the modem/router? My house is small (1100 square feet newly built house and the layout is basically a big rectangle with some walls separating into rooms).

The best I can do is unplug the power adapter and plug it back in and its locked onto the last color it was on and the app cannot find it "it's gone dark". My lightship works 50% of the time as in my being able to even connect it. I've been trying to update them through the app but I keep getting the message "device failed to download firmware". The bulbs work 95% of the time but sometimes they stop cycling through colors when that option is on but mostly I just select a themed color no problem.

First question, do they update automatically or I assume I need to go through the app to do so?.

I use xfinity as my service and my modem/router is the provided XB6. My bulbs are older (2.90 (LCM2 chipset*) and I haven't updated them in a while.
